The Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards (Premises Standards) came into force on 1 May 2011. They lead to significant improvements in the level of access required in new buildings and existing buildings undergoing renovation. It was anticipated that corresponding changes would be made to the Building Code of Australia at the same time.
